Various styles of horseback riding are followed by different countries and cultures in the world. In England for horseback riding the “English style of riding” is most commonly pursued. This riding is different than many other commonly followed horseback riding methods like the America’s “Western style”. In both the styles not only the equipment used is different but the dressing style of the rider is also dissimilar.

English Style of Riding

Three different gaits are used in English riding style; walk, trot and canter. In English riding style the horse moves in the same way as any other famous riding styles. But the trot followed here is little unusual. In this trot, the rider lifts himself off his saddle just when the back portion of the horse, which he is riding, comes up. No other riding style uses this trot style.

The saddle used in England’s style is a particularly small saddle, lighter than the Western style’s saddle. Basically English people rides for hunting or show-riding or for pleasure, thus there is no pommel present on the saddle’s front for the horse rider to clasp onto it. English riders uses foot wears and leg wears like the helmets, boots, knee-high socks, and the crops. These accessories are only specific to the English riding style.

The English riders sit in a specific way on the saddle different than other horseback riding styles. Most of them sits with the knees placed at shrivels, or the withers, or on the horse’s shoulders. Thus high up on horse the stirrup is mostly placed in English horseback riding style. The English riding style is generally utilized for the hunt seat jumping; it is a discipline used by the English which engages the horse with its rider in jumping over different hurdles and obstacles.

This hunt seat jumping is meant for showing off horses in shows, also for exhibiting the athleticism and fitness of both the rider and the horse. Besides it is a treat for the eyes to watch such excellent riding skills, and the flexibility, and the dynamism of the horse meant for display. Thus the English horseback riding technique is way unique and interesting to watch.
