Hard To Believe: Symmetry between two US Presidents
This article is a compilation of facts from various sources on the internet. But it is mind boggling nevertheless ! Well this is a bit startling…. and maybe some of you already know it…. still for those of you who did not know of it, here is a bit of hair-raising information for you.
This is about the similarities between the lives (and deaths!) of two former American presidents, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. Well to begin with, both of them were influential presidents who had major remarkable impacts on their country as well as the world. Sadly both of them were assassinated and could not live on to make greater changes.
Abraham Lincoln and Jhon Kennedy had both been born as second children to their families and were both named after their grandfathers. Both Lincoln and Kennedy had served as military officers during their careers and both of them had been Boat Captains. While Lincoln was elected to the Congress in 1846, Kennedy was elected in 1946. In 1856, Lincoln became the runner-up to Vice-Presidency and a century later in 1956, the same happened with Kennedy. Bot Lincoln and Kennedy were Republicans and while Lincoln was nominated as the Presidential nominee at Chicago in 1860, kennedy won his nomination at Chicago in 1960. Lincoln became the President in 1860 while Kennedy won in 1960. Both were minor candidates who were not major candidates for the post.
Stephen Douglas who Lincoln defeated was born in 1813 while Kennedy’s opponent, Richard Nixon was born in 1913. Both their vice-Presidents were Jhonsons; Lincoln’s Andrew Jhonson while Kennedy’s was Lyndon Jhonson. Before the respective Jhonsons became vice-Presidents they were preceded by Hannibal Hamlin (as Lincoln’s first choice vice-President) and Hubert Humphrey (Kennedy’s first choice vice-President). Lincoln was the first President to communicate to the public via Telegraph message and was the first President to be assassinated. Kennedy was the first President to use the Television to communicate to the masses and as of today, is the last president to be assassinated. Both of them were younger than their vice-Presidents and had won with less than fifty percent popularit votes. Both Kennedy and Lincoln had their election lagaly questioned and both of them were elected to office on November 8th of the term in which they were assassinated.
During their re-election running, both of them wanted their running mates switched. During their presidency, both the leaders were associated with noted black leaders; Lincoln with DFrederick Douglas and Kennedy with Martin Luther King Jr.
As far as habits are concerned, both the Presidents never carried money and were in the habit of borrowing money from friends. Both had four children out of which two had died before their teens. Lincoln’s and Kennedy’s wives had both lost a child in the White House. Lincoln had two sons Edward and Robert. Edward died while Robert lived on. Kennedy also had two sons, Edward and Robert. Robert died while Edward lived on. Both the Presidents had lost their sisters just before coming to the White House.
Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy both were assassinated in office. Both were shot from the back, in the head and in the presence of their wives. Both of them had been advised not to attend the functions were they were ultimately assassinated. Licoln was assassinated by John Wilkis Booth who shot him in a theatre and ran into a storehouse. Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a storehouse and ran into a theatre. Both the assassins died before they could go to trial.
And for people crazy about numbers, here is a little trivia: both Lincoln and Kennedy are made of seven letters; both Andrew Jhonson and Lyndon Jhonson (their vice Presidents) count thirteen letters; and Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkis Booth both count fifteen letters….
Hmm….I guess history does repeat itself….sometimes if not always….
